The Philip K Dick Film Festival opens its 2012 season with Radio Free Albemuth the masterful adaptation of Philip K Dick's novel. Radio Free Albemuth was directed by John Alan Simon (producer of the Getaway) and stars Shea Wigham, Jonathan Scarfe ( Savages), Katheryn Winnick (Love and other drugs) and Alanis Morrisette.
Berkeley record store clerk Nick Brady (Jonathan Scarfe) begins to experience strange visions from an entity he calls VALIS that cause him to uproot his family and move to Los Angeles where he becomes a successful music company executive. With the help of best friend, science-fiction writer Philip K. Dick himself (Shea Whigam) and a mysterious woman named Silvia (Alanis Morissette), Nick finds himself drawn into a dangerous political-mystical conspiracy of cosmic proportions. The story is set in an alternate reality America circa 1985 under the authoritarian control of President Fremont, a Nixon-like clone (Scott Wilson). Q&A with director John Alan Simon will follow the screening of the film.

Henri, a powerful short film directed by Eli Sasich,stars Keir Dullea ( of 2001 fame) and Margot Kidder (Superman) explores human existence at the most fundamental, personal level - what it means to be a conscious individual. Set hundreds of years in the future, a derelict spacecraft, controlled and powered by a human brain, floats aimlessly in the outer reaches of space. Trapped in the cold, mechanical prison of the vessel, the brain, which has no recollection or concept of self, miraculously begins to experience disjointed images of its former life - images it cannot understand.Piece by piece, it builds a body eventually  becoming a cyborg with awareness. A running voice over (Keir Dullea) brings us into the mind of Henri as he remembers his last interaction with his builder(Margot Kidder), Henri becomes  human (Keir Dullea) in his final confrontation with mortality.

In a small shack built upon the overgrown remains of a world that has faded away, a man lives in complete isolation. Basic survival consumes Sandman's life. He spends each day foraging and collecting things from his carved out part of the world. Years in complete seclusion have made him detached and despondent. But his daily routines and holding dearly to his memories are what keep him going. That is, until his isolation is intruded upon.

Evocative of Chung King Express Anamnesis is a brilliant short directed by Brad Champagne.

This distinguished panel of  writers and experiencers will explore this issue, perhaps the most important  question facing humanity today.


Richard Dolan is among the world's most prominent researchers and historians of UFOs.
He is the author of two volumes of history, UFOs and the National Security State, as well as an analysis of the future, A.D. After Disclosure: The People’s Guide to Life After Contact.He has also appeared on many specials for The History Channel, SyFy, BBC, and elsewhere, including hosting for the TV series SciFi Investigates.


Peter Robbins is also one of America’s best known investigative writers and public speakers in regard to the serious study of UFOs. He is also is co-author of the British best-seller, Left at East Gate: A First-Hand Account of the Rendlesham Forest UFO Incident, Its Cover-Up and Investigation.


Posey Gilbert is a well-known UFO experiencer who has appeared on national and local TV, in newspapers and at conferences, talking about out  his experiences with the visitors since he was 6 years old.Posey has appeared in various UFO documentaries. He is a compose writer and poet.Posey's experiences are mixed. He warns us of another reality right next to ours.


Marc Brinkerhoff is said to have established an ongoing relationship with aliens, but he also seems to have the uncanny ability to point his camera at the heavens and take photographs of things that have no business being in the sky.Marc's first encounter with the visitors took place when he was 5 years .Since that day, Brinkerhoof contends that extraterrestrials have been contacting him and other humans. Apparently, they are programming us to save the world and the universe from a possible destruction.


James Carman directed The Hidden Hand. an EBE documentary winner. The Hidden Hand  explores the possibility of an extraterrestrial presence here on Earth. Both Philip K. Dick and HP Lovecraft explored the dark side of the mind and the universe. Both developed extensive cosmologies that permeated their works. In this revealing panel  John Alan Simon,director of Radio Free Albemuth and Dennis Paoli, co-writer of Re Animator team up with radio talk show Jim Freund,to explore the stream of consciousness that impacted both writers and how their works may be a foreshadowing of things to come.


John Alan Simon, writer director for Radio Free Albemuth.John has an extensive back ground in Philip K Dick. He has the film rights of Valis which he is working to adapt it into a movie. John was also executive producer of The Getaway.


Dennis Paoli, co-writer along with Stuart Gordon of famous H.P.Lovecraft The Re Animator, From Beyond and Dagon. Dennis is an instructor at HunterCollege in NYC

A distinguished group of writers and filmmakers discuss the outsider frame, challenges for people of color in Sci Fi and how this shaped their characters.

Walter Mosley is the author of more than 37 critically acclaimed books, including the major bestselling mystery series featuring Easy Rawlins. His work has been translated into 23 languages and adapted for television. His work includes literary fiction, science fiction, political monographs, and a young adult novel. His science fiction novels include Blue Light and The Wave.

Sam Delany,author, professor and literary critic. His work includes a number of novels, many in the science fiction genre, His science fiction novels include Babel-17, The Einstein Intersection (winners of the Nebula Award for 1966[2] and 1967[3] respectively), Nova, Dhalgren, and the Return to Nevèrÿon series.

Alex Rivera is known  for his work Sleep Dealer, which premiered in the Sundance Film Festival 2008. In the same year, he was awarded the Alfred P Sloan Feature Prize and the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award.Of Peruvian descent Alex explores the challenges of Latinos within a sci-fi frame.

Lawrence Oliver Cheery is writer producer for Haylies Films is a small diverse film company whose aim is to provide original programing for prominent production houses. Haylies Films produces television dramas, sci-fi, documentaries, docu-dramas and conversions of novels to television series and made for t.v. movies.

Lola Salvador writer ,producer actor and director of many films from Spain. She co-directed The Mist in the Palm Trees for which he placed at Tribeca Film Festival and won several awards at European film

Carlos Molinero a well know writer  for Spanish television is producer, director of The Mist in the Palm Trees.

Moderator - Warrington Hudlin is a media community organizer, celebrated filmmaker, film curator, and Internet producer. His creative work challenges the false dichotomy between social concerns and popular entertainment. Warrington Hudlin is best known as the producer of popular feature films, HOUSE PARTY, BOOMERANG, and BEBE'S KIDS. He is currently involved in both transmedia and disruptive media projects.
